How to get here!

By car

Visitors can reach Anogeia either via Heraklion (36 km) or Rethymnon (52 km). The route from Heraklion is very nice, passing through beautiful landscapes and villages. Starting from Heraklion and following the national Heraklion-Chania Road, take the exit to the old national road towards Gazi and Anogeia. From the area of Tylissos, there are two alternative routes to Anogeia. One is to follow the old road through Tylissos; after crossing Gonian Gorge, drive uphill to the hamlet of Gonies and continue to Anogeia. Alternatively, follow the old national road from Heraklion to Rethymnon and after Voulismeno Aloni, an impressive karst formation, turn left into the new road leading to Stroumboula Plateau; further
on, after crossing the villages of Astyraki and Aidonochori, the national road joins the old road to Anogeia. From Rethymnon, drive on the National Road towards Heraklion until the junction at Panormo; then follow the road to the hinterland. The route crosses the area of Mylopotamos and passes through several villages before reaching Anogeia.

By bus

Anogeia can be reached by bus, from Heraklion or Rethymnon. One should keep in mind that, due to the shorter distance, bus services from Heraklion are more frequent. From Heraklion, the bus service to Anogeia starts at the bus station located next to Hanioporta (Station Bi)*. From Rethymnon one can take a Chania – Rethymno KTEL bus at the Central Bus Station**. Coming from Chania, one needs to change buses twice (so check if there are convenient connections).
